faith, family, and farming

Spring has arrived…

We are loving spring around here.  This time of year means a lot of field work and planting.  Raising kids on a farm is such a blessing…

All our children love riding along with their dad or grandpa in whatever piece of machinery is running at the time…whether it’s the huge “4 wheel drive” (as our kids call it) Steiger CASE IH pulling a soil finisher or the John Deere 8295R pulling the planter.   For conditions to be right for planting, the soil must be dried out and the weather must be mild to warm.

Last week, we began planting corn, then had a few rainy days.  This week the ground dried out enough again for some more corn planting to get done…then today we are being blessed with more rain.  Rain is very important to the growth of our crops and we are so thankful for it!  As a farming family, we also see it as a gift of rest.  When conditions are right, we go-go-go…a rain day means a bit of a break.  As a farmer’s wife…I love rainy days.  Today we are all in the house, as the wind blows and rain comes down outside.  Our kids are busy playing and imagining in the living room, while Doug and I get caught up on things like book work and updating this site!
